"SURPRISE!" Sia wrote on her Youtube account this Wednesday. She posted a new single titled "Big Girls Cry" off her much awaited album 1000 Forms of Fear which is scheduled to be released July 8th. The track is absolutely beautiful, if I do say so myself. It's a sad account of a lonely woman but also empowering with its chorus stating "I don't care if I don't look pretty / Big girls cry when their hearts are breaking." The message is refreshing, relatable, and absolutely true.
What more could you expect from such a talented songwriter and vocalist?! Sia is known for writing songs for likes of Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, and Madonna. She is also known for being extremely camera shy and has had a rough past struggling with the spotlight. Browsing her website, all pictures posted of her are merely of her back, the only indication that Sia is in the picture is her iconic blonde bob. Last month, she performed her single "Chandelier" (another gorgeous track) and recreated its music video on The Ellen Show; however, she refused to show her face to the camera and performed facing a corner in the shadows. Her fame-anxiety and mysteriousness only adds to the hype surrounding her. Sia is extremely talented and every song I listen to I can feel deep in my chest. I am expecting to be blown away by her upcoming album and for it to be filled with personal tracks perhaps giving us more insight into the darkest parts of Sia's troubles and fears, making the title all the more appropriate.
Check out "Big Girls Cry" and TRY to tell me you don't love it.
